Supervised Private Practice-Business Operations and Requirements (3 hours)

Through lecture, discussion, and activities this training is designed to develop and strengthen clinicians’ knowledge of the legal and professional requirements of starting a supervised private practice in the state of Arizona. This training provides guidance in meeting the required education regarding business operations specific to behavioral health care including how to ensure the supervised private practice complies with all provisions of A.R.S. Title 32, Chapter 33.This training includes a step-by-step review and discussion of the Arizona Laws and Statues for business operators in behavioral health as well as for practicing clinicians. This training provides education and guidance to inform the student of required tasks in the state of Arizona. Once completed, the student will have thorough knowledge of the outlined objectives.
1.Distinguish differences between private practice and supervised private practice in Arizona.
2.Demonstrate understanding of the Laws and Statues in Arizona which pertain to owning and operating a private behavioral health practice.
3.Identify and discuss professional requirements for starting a business in Arizona.
4.Identify and discuss clinical requirements for being a qualified clinical supervisor in Arizona.
5.Discuss requirements for applying to become a Supervised Private Practice in Arizona.
6.Review and discuss details necessary in a contract for supervision in a supervised private practice.
7.Discuss responsibilities of a supervisee in a supervised private practice, both clinically and within the business operations.
8.Discussed responsibilities and oversight required for a supervisor in a supervised private practice.
9.Review and discuss ethical business operations in a behavioral health practice.
10.Discuss specific policies and procedures for a private practice.
11.Discuss requirements for advertising a new supervised private practice.
12.Identify and discuss necessary clinical forms for a private practice and thorough client record.

Charise Schwertfeger, M.S., LMFT
Charise received her graduate degree from the Marriage and Family Therapy program at Arizona State University, cohort graduation December 2009. She is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who has worked as a clinician in multiple clinical settings including public mental health, private community agencies, as well as private practice. She has also supervised graduate intern clinicians and associate clinicians in the community health setting and private practice setting. She is a member of various clinical organizations for therapists and has additional training in the areas of Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).
Minon Maier, M.A., LMFT
Minon received her graduate degree from the Marriage and Family Therapy program at the University of San Diego, graduation May 2005. She is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who has worked as a clinician in multiple clinical settings including public mental health, inpatient treatment, acute care, private community agencies, as well as private practice. She has also supervised graduate intern clinicians and associate clinicians in the community health settings as well as private practice. She is a member of various clinical organizations for therapists and has additional training in the areas of Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).
